Co-organisation of a discussion workshop on post-crisis urban reconstruction

As part of the preparations for an event by the French Development Agency at the Habitat III conference that will take place in Quito on 17-20 October 2016, a discussion workshop is being held on 29 September, following the South-South discussions that took place in Haiti last month.

This peer exchange between delegations from the Central African Republic and Haiti was held in Port-au-Prince from 29 August to 2 September 2016. The aim was to share the experiences of Bangui and Port-au-Prince, two cities faced with issues of resilience and post-crisis urban reconstruction. Following on from this, a one-day discussion workshop has been organized on these topics by the French Development Agency (AFD).

This workshop, which is being prepared in partnership with Groupe URD, will be an opportunity to discuss post-crisis urban reconstruction and the operational methods of donors.

In the morning, the discussions will focus on projects carried out by the AFD this year, in preparation for Habitat III. They will also cover the exchange that the AFD asked Groupe URD to organise in Haiti from 29 August to 2 September 2016. In addition, the AFD commissioned a film of this initiative. The filmmaker filmed the CAR delegation in their day-to-day professional activities in Bangui before they went to Haïti.

In the afternoon, there will be three sessions. These will focus on: scales of intervention, links between civil society and institutions, and prospects for the future.

Groupe URD will be facilitating the feedback from the peer exchange in Port-au-Prince, as well as the afternoon sessions and will summarise the day’s discussions.

The AFD’s aim is to use this day of discussion to consider ways of improving donor methods in post-crisis urban contexts.

P.S: This discussion workshop will be held on 29 September 2016 from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm, in the salle Jacques Alliot at AFD headquarters.
