Innovative collective learning mechanisms for humanitarian actors
Concepts which Groupe URD has developed and tested, such as our field-based Observatories, iterative evaluations with mini seminars, and real-time evaluations, aim to make collective learning mechanisms more effective.
They help to identify and promote good practices at the right time and in the right place, from a strategic and technical point of view. Thus, they allow donors and implementing agencies to ensure that changes take place where they are needed, and for the benefit of the affected population. Today, donors such as USAID (HELP project), DFID and Irish Aid are supporting our work by funding our activities in Haiti and Mali.
The Haiti Observatory is a field office which carries out operational studies, runs training sessions, conducts evaluations and disseminates results. Its objective is to help the aid community and national organizations to learn more effectively (collectively and individually) and to stimulate changes in practices by improving evaluation methods.
The iterative evaluation with mini seminars in the Mali region (including a few neighbouring countries affected by the Malian crisis) is a process which includes several field visits carried out by a multi-disciplinary team who will produce recommendations to be disseminated widely throughout the aid community, with the organisation of mini-seminars at the end of each phase.
