Providing clean water and sanitation in crisis situations
July 2008 - April 2010, with the French Water Academy
Methodological research on the provision of clean water and sanitation in crisis situations – natural or technological disasters, armed conflict or internal unrest.
Before the 5th World Water Forum which took place in March 2009 in Istanbul, Groupe URD was commissioned by the French Water Academy to review existing knowledge about providing clean water and sanitation in crisis situations.
Specialists from humanitarian organisations working in this field were consulted as part of this project, which included several phases:
- Literature review and summary of existing knowledge;
- Analysis of project reports and evaluations;
- Interviews of key people.
The overall objective of this project was to understand the problems involved and the failures which take place, to highlight successes and bring together and share the experiences of a large number of actors in order to open up new work perspectives.
