Publication of the analysis of the humanitarian response in the Sahel in 2011-2012
The report from the lesson learning study on the international response to the food crisis in the Sahel is now available to the public. This report provides detailed analysis of the humanitarian response in this area, between 2011 and 2012, of the economic and contextual issues behind the food crisis in the Sahel, with a particular focus on the issue of people’s resilience. It was presented on 13 December during a meeting of directors of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) member agencies. This type of document aims to feed discussions for strategic orientation of aid policy.
The study was carried out by a mixed team from Groupe URD and OCHA, in Chad, Mauritania, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Niger. It was commissioned by the IASC, which is responsible for coordination between UN agencies, international bodies and implementing partners and the development of policies and directives for the humanitarian sector.
