Study on the management of waste generated by humanitarian organisations

Groupe URD is working in partnership with the Centre Francophone de Recherche Partenariale sur l’Assainissement, les Déchets et l’Environnement (CEFREPADE) to carry out a study on the management of waste generated by humanitarian organisations’ activities. This study is related both to the activities of the Haiti Observatory and of the Humanitarian Environment Network, where there was also a great deal of interest in this issue.

The study aims to make recommendations and provide aid actors with tools to improve the management of waste generated by their activities (Haiti, and specifically the Ouest region, which includes Port-au-Prince). It will try to improve all aspects of waste management – such as production, monitoring, storage, collection, treatment and elimination – whether for waste produced by programmes (medical waste, plastic, packaging, etc.) or for waste linked to logistics (batteries, used engine oil, computers, etc.).
