Three evaluations recently carried out by the Haiti Observatory

The Observatory carried out three evaluations during September and October: the final evaluation of the Joint Programme by the German Red Cross and the Austrian Red Cross ; the second part of the iterative evaluation of Solidarités’ programme in Christ-Roi (a neighbourhood of Port-au-Prince); and the final evaluation of a project to renovate Arche Haïti’s Foyer Sainte Bernadette.

Final evaluation of the joint programme by the German Red Cross and the Austrian Red Cross
The evaluation of the joint response to the 2010 earthquake by the German Red Cross and the Austrian Red Cross began in September and will end with the presentation of the final report in November. This programme, which had several components (WASH, DRR, Livelihoods, Shelter and Capacity Building), was implemented in the communes of Léogâne and Gressier in the south west of Port-au-Prince, the area the most affected by the disaster. The Groupe URD evaluation team included a consultant who recently completed our evaluation training course. By involving former course participants in our evaluations, they are able to put into practice what they have learned, thus building the national capacity in evaluation.

Second mission of the iterative evaluation of Solidarités’ Programme in Christ-Roi (Port-au-Prince)
The Observatory took part in the second international mission of the iterative evaluation of a programme to improve the living conditions in Christ-Roi (a neighbourhood of Port-au-Prince). The programme covers a number of sectors (Urban Planning, Economic Development, WASH, and Housing) and is being run by a consortium made up of Solidarités International (coordinator of the consortium, in charge of the WASH section), Entrepreneurs du Monde-EDM (in charge of the Economic Development section), GRET and Build Change (in charge of the Housing section).

Final evaluation of a project to renovate Arche Haïti’s Foyer Sainte Bernadette
The Observatory has begun an evaluation of a project funded by Secours Catholique to renovate the Foyer Sainte Bernadette, located in Carrefour in the western suburbs of Port-au-Prince. The centre specialises in treating the mentally handicapped and was badly damaged by the earthquake in January 2010. The evaluation report is due to be presented in early December 2014.
