The Groupe URD team in Afghanistan varies in size from 8 or 9 permanent staff to more than 20 staff depending on the projects being run.
The full-time expatriate team is made up of:
- a country director who alternates between field work, management tasks and representing Groupe URD in Kabul.
- a research coordinator for the PMIS project who works between Pul-e-Khumri and Kabul
- several researchers who work in different locations around the country.
The logistics team is made up of 6 Afghans (2 drivers, 3 guards and a maintenance man) under the responsibility of a logistician-administrator-translator-guide without whom nothing would be possible.
Specialists from head office visit regularly for specific research projects, evaluations and training courses.
The Afghanistan research team has recently changed. The new ‘Afghan’ team is Claire Mariani, Annette Courteix and Johan Pasquet - they will be responsible for the KAIFIAT project and the other projects currently underway.
Claire Mariani has taken over as Country Director, replacing Peggy Pascal, who will continue to work for Groupe URD, based in France. Peggy’s letter of farewell, after three years in Afghanistan, can be read here: ‘Salam Afghanistan’ (translated by Charlotte Dufour ).
