Study of poppy cultivation in the province of Badakshan for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (December 2007 – January 2008):
UNODC asked Groupe URD to carry out an evaluation in the province of Badakhshan, in order to identify the most pressing needs of vulnerable farmers who are involved or could become involved in poppy cultivation, and to make operational recommendations for a partnership between UNODC and the WFP. The evaluation focused particularly on the potential impact that food aid could have on opium production.

Study of chronically poor women in Afghanistan
JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and GTZ (Deutsch Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit) chose Groupe URD to carry out a 5-month research project (March - July 2007) to help the Ministry of Women’s Affairs to develop policies and programmes which would improve the situation of chronically poor women and widows with families to look after, and which would allow them to achieve the objectives fixed in the Afghanistan National Development Strategy

The LRRD Project (Linking Relief, Rehabilitation and Developpement)
The LRRD project (Linking Relief, Rehabilitation and Development), financed by the European Commission, is a global, multisector research project which has involved numerous studies by Groupe URD experts and consultants since 2004. Based on a multi-disciplinary approach, the project focused on six sectors: rural development, water/irrigation, nutrition, urbanism, health and education. The project has produced many
cross-sector and individual sector reports.

This project took place between 2002 and 2004 as part of the PRUD urban development research programme. One of the case studies was conducted in Kabul.

Quality in humanitarian action (1999 - 2003)
From 1999 to 2003, in partnership with NGOs, Groupe URD worked on the Quality Project, operational research into quality in humanitarian action.This research led to the creation of the Quality COMPAS©, a quality assurance method specifically designed for humanitarian project, and its interactive version, the Dynamic COMPAS®, software for both quality and information management.
