- The interaction between humanitarians and the military
Groupe URD conducted research for the French Ministry of Defence on the theme of: "The interaction between humanitarians and the military”.
This project focused on two aspects:
- Study 1 : " Can information be shared between humanitarians and the military? Example: evaluating the needs of crisis-affected populations;
- Study 2 : " The reform of the United Nations humanitarian system".
- The Quality Project in Portugal
Groupe URD was asked to carry out 2 studies by the platform of portuguese NGOs:
- The first concerns current and future quality approaches in the humanitarian sector in Portugal and will end with a training course before December 2007
- The second concerns the setting up of a fund for emergency response by the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Quality Project in Spain
This research project involved a six-month partnership with IECAH (Instituto de Estudios sobre Conflictos y Acción Humanitaria), a Spanish institute which carries out research into conflicts and humanitarian action and which is a member of ALNAP.
- Study of chronically poor women in Afghanistan
JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and GTZ (Deutsch Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit) chose Groupe URD to carry out a five-month research project (March - July 2007), which aimed to help the Ministry of Women’s Affairs to develop policies and programmes to improve the condition of chronically poor women and widows with families to support, in order to achieve the objectives fixed by the Afghanistan National Development Strategy (A.N.D.S.).
- Linking Relief, Rehabilitation and Development in Afghanistan (2005 - 2007)
From June 2004 to January 2007, Groupe URD conducted research into the links between relief rehabilitation and development in Afghanistan. Funded by the European Commission, the project was conducted using a multidisciplinary approach analysing six sectors: rural development, water/irrigation, nutrition, town planning, health and education.
- The Global Study on Consultation and Participation of Affected Populations in Humanitarian Action
The global study of ways in which affected populations are consulted and participate in the design, management, follow-up and evaluation of humanitarian programmes was carried out by Groupe URD for the ALNAP network.
- Quality in humanitarian action (1999 - 2003)
From 1999 to 2003, in partnership with NGOs, Groupe URD worked on the Quality Project, operational research into quality in humanitarian action. This research led to the creation of the Quality COMPAS©, a quality assurance method specifically designed for humanitarian project, and its interactive version, the Dynamic COMPAS®, software for both quality and information management.
- Wars in cities and cities in wars
This project ran from April 2002 to 2004 as part of a large-scale project called PRUD (Programme de Recherche Urbaine pour le Développement)
- Study of the humanitarian response to hurricane Mitch
In 1999, Groupe URD launched an evaluation project which aimed to responsibilise and share lessons learned in the follow up to hurricane Mitch (October 1998)
- The relationship between public and private humanitarian action
Research and debates around three main pillars: Law, field operations and coordination.
