Study - “Community Approaches in Urban Contexts”

The term, “community-based approach”, is widely used by humanitarian and development organisations in Haiti, but this concept refers to very different realities depending on the organisation and depending, even more, on the perception of the communities themselves. Defining what a community-based approach means in Haiti and analyzing what the community-based concept refers to in urban environments will make it possible to improve understanding of the participation of communities in the different phases of the project cycle.

Groupe URD is therefore going to run a project involving operational research and the development of tools which will aim to i) study programmes which use a community-based approach, ii) analyse the issues involved in an approach of this kind in Haitian urban contexts, and iii) propose a contextualized methodology. This study is due to last 5 months and will be carried out as part of the activities of Groupe URD’s Haiti Observatory.
