Launch of the French version of the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS)

The official launch of the French version of the CHS, the new quality and accountability reference framework for humanitarian action, will take place in Paris on 19 March 2015, organized by Groupe URD, HAP International, People in Aid and the Sphere Project. The launch follows broad international consultation of aid organisations over a period of 12 months. This new reference framework defines nine commitments that organisations and individuals involved in humanitarian response can use to improve the quality of the assistance that they provide, and increase accountability towards crisis-affected people.

What does this new reference framework imply for the sector? Can the CHS help to improve what is a necessarily heterogeneous and complex humanitarian system? How can changes in practices be supported and stimulated in the long term within NGOs? How can this reference framework be integrated into your practices? How should it be implemented (self-evaluation, external assessment, peer review, certification, etc.) and what results will it give? These are some of the questions which it has raised and which need to be discussed.

A presentation of the CHS will be followed by a debate on its implementation and perspectives for the sector to move towards the continuous improvement of aid quality and project management. Representatives of Groupe URD, HAP International, the Steering Committee for Humanitarian Response, the Sphere Project and SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL will be present to give their points of view.

This event will take place at La MAS - Maison des Associations de Solidarité (18 rue des Terres au curé - 75013 Paris), 2-4 pm.

As there are a limited number of places and the event is almost full, please contact Jeanne Taisson for more information.
