Alongside the ICRC and UN Habitat, Groupe URD has presented some of the key points from its work on war in cities, based on our studies in Huambo, Sarajevo, Grozny, Mogadishu and in Syria, during the debate "Responding to Protection Challenges in Urban Areas: Lessons from Conflict and Displacement in Towns and Cities".

The International Conference, which takes place every 4 years, is the highest deliberative authority of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Its members include all the states that are party to the Geneva Conventions and all the different components of the Movement: the ICRC, the International Federation and the 189 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. A certain number of other humanitarian and development organisations take part as observers. These include several international and regional organisations, the United Nations and some of its specialist institutions, NGOs and academic bodies. Fifty years after their adoption, the Fundamental Principles will be the main theme of this event, which is an opportunity to debate global humanitarian issues facing the international community. It will lead to the adoption of resolutions and commitments.
