Nepal: Groupe URD at the heart of the recovery process
As part of a project with UNDP funded by DG ECHO, Groupe URD is analyzing the issues at stake in the transition to development in Nepal. We have recently carried out a field visit to rural areas and Kathmandu to try to identify the most appropriate methods to help launch the early recovery phase while continuing to take care of residual humanitarian needs.
Four months after the earthquake of 25 April and the terrible aftershock in May, Nepal and the affected districts are trying to recover. The situation is complex due to the quantity of debris to be cleared, the damaged and therefore dangerous buildings which need to be raised in rural areas and Kathmandu, the management of risks related to the ongoing monsoon season, and the political tensions related to Constitutional debates and the administrative organisation of the country. The resilience of the Nepalese people, and their courage in the face of adversity, are all the more admirable.
