Seminar: Cities and crises: operational and anticipation strategies
29 April, Paris

On 29 April, 2013, the French Development Agency and Groupe URD are organising a work, exchange and discussion seminar on operational methods in urban contexts affected by disasters and crises. The objective of the seminar is to allow humanitarian, development, urban development and other professionals to share information about adapting urban expertise to these contexts.

On 29 April, 2013, the French Development Agency and Groupe URD are organising a work, exchange and discussion seminar on operational methods in urban contexts affected by disasters and crises, an area where there is a lack of urban expertise.

The one-day seminar has two objectives:

  • To highlight the main issues involved in this kind of operation from the post-emergency phase to the reconstruction phase by exchanging and comparing analyses, approaches, evaluations and experiments.
  • To develop operational recommendations which will help to anticipate and manage crises.

In order to prompt discussion of these subjects, the seminar will take the form of discussion and exchange workshops, in groups, based on the themes presented in the programme attached. To broaden the debates and compare different viewpoints, invitations have been sent to different bodies including International Agencies, French institutions, regional authorities, foundations, donors, business group foundations, NGO platforms, humanitarian and development NGOs, associations, universities and urban development and aid professionals.
