A stronger collective dynamic in pursuit of climate justice

Faced with worsening climate and environmental crises and their disproportionate impact on the most vulnerable populations, since 2020, REH has been supporting a collective initiative of organisations engaged in international solidarity.

First adopted in December 2020 by 10 organisations, the Statement of Commitment on Climate by Humanitarian Organisations has gradually brought together 15 signatory NGOs committed to reducing their environmental impact and changing their operational practices.

In January 2026, the REH published a new version of the Statement, now entitled: “Statement of Commitment on Climate and the Environment by Organisations engaged in International Solidarity”.

This revision does not call into question the initial momentum, but responds to an observation shared by the organisations involved: the need to strengthen the consideration of climate justice in these collective commitments and to adopt a more holistic environmental approach.

The REH’s position paper on targets highlighted that objectives formulated primarily on the basis of carbon logic could, in certain contexts, conflict with the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, and with the right to development.

The new version of the declaration has now been signed by 14 NGOs: Action Contre la Faim, CARE France, la Croix-Rouge française, Électriciens Sans Frontières, Entrepreneurs du Monde, le Gret, le Groupe Agropastoral pour le Développement de Yongoro, le Groupe URD, Handicap international, Médecins du Monde, Première Urgence Internationale, le Secours Islamique France, Solidarités International et Triangle Génération Humanitaire.

The Statement is open for signature! If you would like to sign it or receive more information, please contact secretariat@environnementhumanitaire.org.

The previous version of the declaration is still available here.

What about the five-year follow-up report?

Based on the initial version of the Statement (2020) and in line with previous follow-ups, this report documents the progress made by the 15 signatory NGOs and provides a collective assessment of the advances, challenges, and lessons learned after five years of commitment.
