Minutes of UAH 2008: “The European Consensus on Humanitarian Aid”

At the initiative of Louis Michel, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, a consultation process between Parliament, the Commission and the Member States was launched in 2007 and culminated on 18 December in the tripartite adoption of the "European Consensus on Humanitarian Aid", a document validating a set of common principles. This text will only be a real step forward if the discourse it contains is transformed into action, i.e. a significant improvement in the European Union's (Commission and Member States') activities related to humanitarian aid. To this end, at the end of May 2008, the Commission adopted an action plan to operationalise the consensus with human resources to carry out this mission.
