Learning objectives

By the end of the course, you will be (able to):

  • Describe the various environmental issues and related concepts;
  • Understand what is at stake with regard to the interaction between humanitarian crises, the environment and international aid;
  • Identify existing tools for rapidly assessing the environmental impact of international aid projects; explain how NEAT+ works, analyse and exploit the results;
  • Describe methodological practices and list the right questions to ask oneself in order to integrate environmental considerations at each phase of the project cycle;
  • Describe the key aspects of an environmental approach within an organisation;
  • Identify and describe good practices for reducing the environmental impact of an organisation’s offices and operating procedures;
  • Draw up an environmental action plan for your organisation.

 

Contents

  • Climate Fresk workshop and key environmental challenges;
  • State of the art of environmental issues in the international aid sector (donors, UN agencies, international organisations, standards);
  • Environmental assessment tools and approaches (particularly NEAT+);
  • Case study on how to integrate the environment into a project;
  • Presentation on how different organisations are tackling these challenges.

 

Target audience

This training course is aimed at professionals from the international aid sector who are involved in the design, implementation, funding, logistical aspects, or monitoring & evaluation of crisis response, as well as support staff (project managers, grant officers, M&E officers, managers, logisticians, communication officers, etc.).
