Learning objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the issues at stake in the interaction between humanitarian crises, the environment and humanitarian action;
  • Promote environmentally-friendly humanitarian action within their organisations (and possibly with donors), due to their understanding of the challenges involved and possible areas for leverage, through advocacy and awareness-raising;
  • Describe the key aspects of an environmental approach within an organisation;
  • Apply the relevant methodology and ask the ‘right questions’ in order to integrate environmental considerations at each step of the project cycle;
  • Identify and propose good practices to reduce the environmental impact of their programmes and their offices;
  • Use the relevant tools to conduct environmental impact studies.
