The increase in inter-state and cross-border conflicts, the changing terrorist threat, population displacement and climatic risks are all security and development challenges facing states and citizens in the Sahel and the Middle East.

In order to guarantee peace and stability, a global approach, known as the security-development contiguum, could be a way to improve the methods of partner states and development agencies. It could create a significant, long-term impact in the most vulnerable countries and regions by adopting solutions of different kinds in the field: conflict prevention, stabilisation and recovery, combating global and cross-border threats, and supporting state security systems.

The effectiveness of this approach depends on the ability to coordinate different types of actors and combine different practices and approaches, whether they are those of public authorities, NGOs, development agencies or operators.

Faced with these challenges: how can the security needs in the Sahel and the Middle East and the expectations of the population be better understood? What innovative solutions can be developed in the field?
