Due to the urgent need to develop a more integrated and sustainable response to the humanitarian crisis in the Sahel, Solidarités International, GRET and Groupe URD established a consortium in collaboration with the ONEA (the national water and sanitation department). The consortium adopted an innovative approach, combining humanitarian and development aspects, with the aim of maintaining and strengthening drinking water utilities in areas hosting displaced populations.
From May 2021 to November 2023, Groupe URD played the role of “learning partner” within the consortium. As such, we were responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and sharing the methods developed and the lessons learnt, with a view to replicating this approach in the main urban centres hosting forcibly displaced people in Burkina Faso.
Our partners, for their part, may continue to carry out technical work until September 2024, depending on how the geopolitical context evolves.
