European Commission project to help design the G5 Sahel’s emergency programme to stabilise border areas

Groupe URD were asked to provide technical expertise to assist the European Commission in establishing guidelines for the call for proposals. Following the organisation and facilitation of a workshop involving experts, guidelines were drawn up, a needs analysis was carried out and operations in the different zones were mapped.

Following the decisions of the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State held in Nouakchott on 2 July 2018, the G5 Sahel Permanent Secretariat launched an emergency programme on infrastructure, governance, resilience and human development in the fragile border regions of Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad, under the Priority Investment Programme (PIP). This programme aims to tackle the roots of vulnerability and reinforce resilience by responding to urgent needs, while also helping local actors and communities to reinforce their livelihood activities and implement conciliation and conflict prevention activities.
